The Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) Pune is the source of Iyengar Yoga. The Institute, established on January 19, 1975 is dedicated to Smt. Ramamani Iyengar, the beloved wife of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar, with whom he had six children – five girls and one boy. Smt Ramamani supported, encouraged and inspired Guruji, BKS Iyengar to propagate yoga throughout the world. She died in 1975 only days after the foundation stone was laid for the Institute.
RIMYI is located in the city of Pune, India and is a place of pilgrimage for thousands of yoga enthusiasts from all parts of the world. Along with Guruji’s devoted local students, international students attend classes conducted by Geetaji and Prashantji – Guruji’s daughter and son – to receive the essence of yoga and learn the values of life. Asana and pranayama classes are conducted throughout the week at the Institute with special classes for women, children, sportspersons and those with medical problems.
