Orange Yoga Room is looking for a locum teacher to teach a minimum of 5 classes per week and possibly Led Practice for the two weeks starting 16 September 2019. There is also a weekly teachers’ practice which they are welcome to attend.

Orange Yoga Room The Yoga Room is an Iyengar School located in the main street of Orange, NSW. It is a small school with 10 classes per week and a friendly community of students. There are four teachers, three of whom will be away at various times during this period. We are hoping for a certified teacher who has the experience to teach classes from Introductory, beginners and gentle through to Level 1 and Level 2 classes. The classes are not huge, typically ranging from 7 to 14 students, but the students’ needs are varied, ranging from the elderly and less mobile, to students with anxiety, and general injuries that they manage in class themselves with some guidance. Our students are taught to be self sufficient and can manage their use of props, and can generally adjust their asanas themselves in class.

Although we all have our individual teaching styles, all four teachers have trained with, and continue to train with Alan Goode at Yoga Mandir in Canberra. The Yoga Room operates in 10-week terms and students generally enrol for the 10 weeks in a specific class. However, we do allow casual attendance in the beginner level classes. We teach to a syllabus for each level, based on Geeta’s Yoga In Action series. We also teach a basic philosophy component, which changes each term. There would ideally be a handover before 16 September. The teacher would be paid the same rate as the rest of the teaching staff.

As a sweetener, the teacher is welcome to live in my home which is close to the centre of town and the studio in exchange for watering my garden and feeding and walking my dog Frank, who is an enthusiastic and friendly kelpie. There is also a cat, Pippi, who needs to be fed but totally does her own thing, as cats usually do.
